Before attending the University of Texas at Austin in pursuit of a BA in Theater and Dance, Joey spent many years volunteering and working with local theaters. Both on stage and in scenic production, Joey developed his craft as an actor and a collaborator. He also dedicated his time to working with interior designers and decorators around central Texas nurturing his talents under the mentorship of creatives at the top of their skill set.

While at UT, he focused primarily on his love for acting but scenic design was always close behind. He designed sets for student produced work in both film and theatre, as well as performing in both the theatre departments main stage productions and with The University Theatre Guild, a student run organization that provided theatre opportunities to students all over campus. In fall of 2013, Joey won a “Best Actor” award for his performance as Rosencrantz in Tom Stoppard’s tragicomedy Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.

With a natural interest in interior and scenic design, it was only a matter of time before he found work as an event designer. While in college, Joey created unique event spaces and guest artist lounges for organizations such as Homeaway, VRBO, Whole foods corporate, Facebook, the Susan G. Komen race for the cure foundation, SXSW, AUSTIN CITY LIMITS (ACL), the Austin Art Alliance, and Austin Way Magazine. After college, Joey found himself working for Austin based home staging company Blanton Design and Staging, where design, storytelling, and marketing came together. He worked closely with a talented, diverse, results driven team on everything from furniture placement and space planning to styling and design concepts. Working under the mentorship of two incredible women working hard in the business, he turned years of theory into daily practice.

Set design and decoration, home staging and space planning, event design and coordination, performance for film and theater, and a new found love for pastry, Joey aspires to inspire the world around him. Life is short and can be truly beautiful if we only strive to see it.
